What is a Differential

What is a Differential?

Differential; It is the part developed for the wheels on the axle to rotate in the same period of time during bends.

To briefly explain the way the differential works, let's assume that the car turns to the right and the wheels on the right are two meters away from the center, while the wheels on the left are four meters away. For the safe return of the vehicle, all sides of the vehicle must move together. The differential also distributes power, allowing the different distances of the wheels to rotate in the same time.

If there was no differential, the wheels would try to go at the same speed every time, which would cause the vehicle to tumble and wear out quickly due to the fact that more weight is placed on the wheels left inside in the bends.

The differential is located in the central part of the axle in rear-wheel drive vehicles, and in front-wheel drive vehicles, it is located in the transmission box on the front axle due to the engine being in front. 4-wheel drive cars also have three on the axle, and these differentials help connect the rear wheels to each other and the front wheels to each other.
