ESP(Electronic Stability Program) How does it works?

ESP is an important system that ensures the safety of the passengers in our vehicles. This system is used to minimize losses and damages in adverse conditions that may happen to us while driving.

ESP is a program controlled by the ECU. The ECU analyzes the information coming from the sub-components and together with the components it is connected to, it prevents the negativities such as skidding, overturning and sliding of the vehicle. If we say how it does it, from the following subcomponents:

        Vehicle lateral sensors,

        Wheel rotation speed sensors,

        Steering turn sensor,

        Hydraulic unit

If there is a difference between the information coming from the vehicle and the normal running of the vehicle, the ESP is activated. ESP works on reverse logic, that is, if the vehicle starts to skid from behind, it applies the front outer brakes, and if it starts to skid from the front, it applies the rear inner brakes. In doing so, it also works with the ASR system. In such cases, if the direct wheel was locked, the vehicle would skid more or increase the possibility of going off the road.

Although ESP is a security system, it may make more sense to turn it off in some cases. For example, when you are traveling on an icy and snowy road in winter or if you are going to take off, the vehicle wheels may turn idle due to the road condition, and the ESP may intervene as if the vehicle is in a negative situation, and this will do more harm than good.
